Namibia President Hage Geingob passes away after cancer diagnosi

Namibia's President Hage Geingob, aged 82, has passed away at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek after being diagnosed with cancer.

The presidency confirmed the death on the social media platform X, without specifying the cause.

Geingob had been receiving treatment from his medical team, and plans were made for him to travel to the United States for further care after the cancer diagnosis last month.

The announcement follows his survival of prostate cancer in 2014 during his term as prime minister before assuming the presidency in 2015.

The southern African country, facing upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections later this year, mourns the loss of its leader.
